Nitrous Oxide
At Woodland Family Dental, we offer nitrous oxide sedation to help you feel comfortable during your appointment. This mild sedative allows you to manage dental anxiety and relax so that you can receive your treatments with ease. Give us a call at 218-724-8227 to schedule a consultation with our dentist, Dr. Dan Larscheid, and learn more about nitrous oxide in Duluth, Minnesota.
Do you ever feel nervous about visiting the dentist? Does your upcoming treatment make you feel anxious? If so, you may benefit from nitrous oxide (N2O) sedation at our office. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a nitrogen-oxygen mixture that you inhale through a nose mask during your treatment. As you breathe in the nitrous oxide, you will experience a relaxed or even euphoric sensation. Nitrous oxide can help you feel calm and at ease throughout your treatment.
Nitrous oxide sedation is very safe: the effects will wear off within just a few minutes after we remove your nose mask, and you can legally and safely drive yourself home after your appointment.
Nitrous oxide is a good option for any of our patients who suffer from dental anxiety or dental phobia. If you feel anxious because you are receiving a treatment you have not experienced before, or if you simply dislike the sounds and sights of the dental office, we may recommend nitrous oxide to help you feel more relaxed. Be certain to discuss your concerns with our dentist and team before your visit so we can help you feel more comfortable during your treatment. We invite you to contact us today to learn more!
Oral Sedation
Our dental team may recommend oral sedation to help you feel more at ease during your treatment. This form of sedation relies on oral medication to help you manage anxiety and feel comfortable. We invite you to call Woodland Family Dental at 218-724-8227 to schedule your appointment with our caring dentist and find out if oral sedation in Duluth, Minnesota, is right for you.
Oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation that we may recommend to ensure that you have a comfortable experience each time you visit our office. Administered in pill form, oral sedation is simple and easy to use. Because oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation, you will remain awake during the treatment, but you will feel more relaxed and at ease. There are many other benefits to sedation dentistry, including:
- With oral sedation, you simply need to take a pill. It is quick and easy to use.
- It produces the necessary amnesic effect for a comfortable experience.
- Oral sedation typically costs less than other forms of sedation.
If you and our dentist determine that oral sedation is right for you, you will be prescribed a pill that will help you relax. You will also receive instructions to take the pill before your scheduled appointment; be certain to follow the specific instructions included with your pill. It is important that you have a family member or friend drive you to and from your appointment to provide maximum safety to yourself and others. When you arrive at our office, you will be awake but extremely relaxed. You may feel drowsy, and it is not unusual for you to not remember all of the details of your appointment.

IV Sedation
Our dentist may recommend IV sedation if you suffer from dental anxiety and fear. This type of sedation allows you to relax completely during your treatment so that you can receive the care you need. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Dan Larscheid and our CRNA, Dr. John Mundy, and learn more about IV sedation in our Duluth office, call Woodland Family Dental today at 218-724-8227.
IV (intravenous) sedation is a conscious sedation treatment, meaning that you will be aware of where you are and what is happening, and able to follow any instructions provided by our dentist. Prior to providing you with IV sedation, you will meet with our dentist one-on-one to discuss your medical history, dental needs, and any other relevant factors to determine if IV sedation is the best option for you.
IV sedation provides medication directly into your bloodstream to help you relax quickly and feel comfortable during your appointment. This type of sedation is very safe, but we will monitor you closely throughout your entire treatment to ensure that there are no complications. Patients often feel as though they have slept through their treatment following their procedure and do not recall many of the details of their visit.
You will need to bring someone with you to drive you home from our office. We also recommend that someone remain with you for several hours after you have arrived home until the medication has worn off.
We invite you to contact our office today for more information about IV sedation and to schedule your consultation with our caring dentist. We look forward to providing you with a comfortable dental visit.
