What Is A

Dental Implant?

Dental implants are permanent replacement teeth. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth. This process can be done on one tooth, your upper/lower, or your entire mouth. Unlike dentures implants aren’t removable and act like your natural teeth.

Same Day?

How Is That Possible?

The “Teeth-in-a-Day” concept involves having a complete set of new teeth that are attached to dental implants on the same day that the implants are placed into the mouth. These are NOT “snap on dentures.” Teeth in a day implant teeth are firmly secured all on as few as 4 dental implants and are permanent.

Our Implant Procedure

Consultation and treatment planning

The procedure to replace multiple missing teeth with dental implants can differ depending on your individual case. Our team will consult with you to determine the best plan for your situation and prepare you for the upcoming procedure and recovery period. We make sure that you are informed and comfortable each step of the way.

Same Day
Implant placement

Placing multiple dental implants is a relatively minor procedure and can sometimes only require local anesthesia. If needed, our team can use sedation to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the procedure. During the procedure, multiple titanium fixtures will be placed in the jaw leaving surrounding natural teeth intact.

3-6 Month
Recovery Time

The healing and recovery time can take anywhere from three to six months, depending on how your body responds. This time allows the implant to integrate into the bone. Once your implants are fully integrated into the jawbone, you’ll see your regular dentist to then have the implants restored by placing abutments and an implant-supported bridge.

What's The Cost?

One big concern that many people have with this procedure is cost. The monetary cost of dentures compared to the cost of Teeth in a day implant-supported teeth is quite different. However, you must think about the negative psychological and poor comfort of dentures compared to teeth in a day implant-supported teeth. While dentures are less expensive than teeth in a day-supported implant teeth, dentures are typically poorly fitting, uncomfortable, and sometimes painful. Dentures often negatively affect your speech and have sometimes have damaging psychological effects. Dental implant teeth supported all on as few as 4 dental implants are permanent.

They essentially replace your original teeth in terms of restoring your confidence and ability to chew food. We have seen the life-changing effects of Teeth In A Day treatment for the many patients we have provided this procedure. If you are a candidate for this procedure, allow us to help you with the monetary costs. At Woodland Family Dental, we offer many financing options to cover the costs of teeth in a day implant-supported teeth.

Dentures VS Implants

Dentures

Pros

  • They cost less than dental implants.
  • Dentures allow your mouth to have time to heal following tooth extraction.
  • Any damage done to dentures can be easily fixed
  • Dentures can be trial tested, unlike dental implants.

Cons

  • Without adhesive, they might slip out while eating.
  • Dentures can affect speech and the taste of food.
  • They’re less comfortable and stable than implants.
  • Partial dentures may make adjacent teeth more vulnerable to decay or gum problems.

Implants

Pros

  • Studies show that implants have a longevity of more than 20 years.
  • No need to remove them regularly for cleaning.
  • What’s more, they help maintain the original structure of your jawbone.

Cons

  • Dental implants cost more than dentures.
  • Getting implants might require additional bone grafting procedures. Since implants require a sufficient amount of bone, they might not be an option for everyone.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

A dental implant by itself is not a tooth! A dental implant is a prosthesis used to replace missing teeth. Essentially, it is a small titanium post/fixture that is inserted into the jawbone, on top of which a single crown (cap), a fixed bridge, a partial denture, or full denture can be attached. Once the implant integrates to your bone, a structure called an abutment is connected to the implant and then the artificial tooth/teeth are attached. Therefore, there are 3 parts to an “implant tooth”: the dental implant itself, the abutment, and the artificial tooth.

Almost anyone who is missing a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all teeth are candidates for dental implants. Talk to your prosthodontist for your specific needs.

Humans are “blessed” with 2 sets of teeth (baby teeth and adult/permanent teeth). When a single permanent tooth or multiple teeth are lost due to dental decay or gum disease, dental implants can now replace them as the 3rd set of fixed teeth! Dental implants can last a lifetime and can improve your appearance, your confidence, and your ability to eat the foods you like, and participate in an active lifestyle, without worrying about your teeth. Dental implants are made of titanium and can never get dental decay!

Like any minor oral surgical procedure, there is a risk of infection, inflammation, and pain, but your prosthodontist will discuss how these can be managed for your specific situation. If there is no available bone to place the implant, then bone and gum grafting procedures may be required, which can increase the cost of your treatment. However, the upfront investment can pay off in the long term.

In general, the cost of replacing a single tooth with a dental implant is almost the same as replacing it with a regular fixed bridge. Dental implant treatment may qualify for some insurance coverage, but situations vary. The cost will vary by patient needs, bone quantity, and region. A prosthodontist will make an assessment based on your unique needs.

It varies from individual to individual and with health and habits. For a healthy individual with good oral hygiene and good health, dental implants are predictably successful with reported success rates above 90-95 percent.

Unlike natural teeth, dental implants are not susceptible to dental disease such as decay; however, the health of the gums is vital to maintaining lasting implant success. Conscientious home care by the patient and regular professional cleanings and check-ups are essential elements for dental implant sustainability. Each patient is different, and success relies upon diagnosis and planning, medical history, and a variety of other factors.

No, dental implants are fixed solidly in the bone and allow teeth to be replaced in a manner that is closest to natural teeth.
