Best Indoor Family Activities to do in Duluth Minnesota on a cold day

Duluth Minnesota is notorious for being one of the coldest places in the country. We have winters that hit in the -40’s without windchill and you’ll still see people out enjoying the day. For those of us who aren’t on that level, our team decided to take a little break from talking about dentistry and have showcased our top 8 activities in Duluth Minnesota on a cold day. Since it’s so cold out, all of these activities are indoors and are perfect for your family.

The Depot Museum

The Depot Museum holds another great piece of Duluth history. Originally a train station the Union Depot served seven railroads with 50 trains arriving and departing each day. The Union Station housed the railroad offices, a newsstand, barbershop, parcel room, and lunchroom. The building was a bustling hub that connected Duluth to the rest of the country. Converted to a museum in the mid-’70s this location is bustling with unique Duluth history. Families could wander the grounds for hours finding unique exhibits. Also included in the building is the underground theater that shows a wide variety of plays and musicals for the family to enjoy. Once you have enjoyed all that the depot has to offer we recommend jumping over to the train museum to continue the adventure.

Lake Superior Railroad Museum

Speaking of railroads, #5 on our list is the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. Connected to the Depot Museum, the Lake Superior Railroad Museum hosts lifesize trains from all spans of time. Museum-goers can see the actual trains that made their way across the country and learn what travel was like before the time of cars. This is one of our favorite activities to do in Duluth Minnesota on a cold day and offers hours of fun for all ages. For more fun make sure to take a train ride!

Solve an Escape Room

Up for a challenge? Duluth offers a wide range of fun and exciting escape rooms. Our favorite is Zero Hour Escape Rooms. They offer fun and challenging escape rooms for the whole family to enjoy. We recommend bringing anyone over the age of 10 as we have found the younger kids don’t have as much fun. This is a perfect activity for a cold day and usually takes about an hour to complete. Currently, Zero Hour has three different rooms to play. These are Prison Break (showcase below), Serial Box Killer, and The Wheelhouse. Make sure to sign up ahead of time as their rooms do have a tendency to fill up quickly.
