Keep reading this blog to learn about Duluth dental implants.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants as artificial teeth that are implanted into the jaw bone. These implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth. These implants act just like natural teeth and allow the wearer to live their normal life. Success rates of our Duluth dental implants vary, depending on where in the jaw the implants are placed but, in general, Duluth dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%. With proper care, implants can last a lifetime.

The Types of Dental Implant

Fixing a single tooth: Choose a Single Dental Implant

If you are missing a single tooth, one dental implant and a crown can replace it. A dental implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root (as shown in the picture below). This procedure is relatively quick and can be done in less than a few hours. This process allows the patient the ability to have a perfect smile without the gap.

Fixing several Teeth: Choose an implant-supported bridge

The second type of dental implant is an implant-supported bridge. Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Furthermore, a bridge is made up of two or more crowns on either side of the gap and helps create a structure for your teeth. Like the single tooth implant, the implant-supported bridges procedures take a few hours to complete leaving patients with perfect teeth.

Fixing all of your teeth: Choose implant-supported dentures

An implant-supported denture is the last of our implant procedures. This procedure can be used to replace multiple teeth missing throughout the mouth or even an entire row of teeth. It works by placing surgical-grade titanium posts directly into the jawbone to restore the root structure of the lost teeth. The structure is then attached to ball-shaped metal connectors called abutments that show above the gum line. Then, a partial or full denture can be placed onto these abutments to give a person their full smile back.

The Impact of Implants:

Implants can change a person’s life, boost their confidence, and help them regain much of what they have been missing out on life. Most implants can last up to 30 years, and act just like normal teeth allowing the user to eat any food that they please. Below you can see a before and after picture of a patient that had the implant procedure done.

The Woodland Family Dental’s Implant Process

Step 1: Consultation And Treatment Planning

  • The procedure to replace multiple missing teeth with dental implants can differ depending on your individual case. Our team will consult with you to determine the best plan for your situation and prepare you for the upcoming procedure and recovery period. Furthermore we make sure that you are informed and comfortable each step of the way.

Step 2: Same Day Implant Placement

  • Placing multiple dental implants is a relatively minor procedure and can sometimes only require local anesthesia. If needed, our team can use sedation to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the procedure. During the procedure, multiple titanium fixtures will be placed in the jaw leaving surrounding natural teeth intact.

Step 3: 3-6 Month Recovery Time

  • The healing and recovery time can take anywhere from three to six months, depending on how your body responds. This time allows the implant to integrate into the bone. Once your implants are fully integrated into the jawbone, you’ll see your regular dentist to then have the implants restored by placing abutments and an implant-supported bridge.
